WAANKARN

Khoa Lak

An ordinary day can always become a special meal.
Because sometimes, what makes a moment special isn’t the occasion, but the food on the table and the people gathered around it.

At WAANKARN, we believe that a good meal is a moment to pause to slow down, step away from the rush, and truly spend time together.
From vibrant southern-style salads that awaken the senses, to simple home-style vegetables stir-fried with eggs, warm and familiar, to rich southern curries, slow-cooked pork stew, and local dishes prepared with care at every step.

A true hidden gem in Khao Lak. This restaurant stands out from the usual tourist traps. Purist, stylish, modern – designed with meticulous attention to detail. If you appreciate thoughtful design, a tranquil atmosphere, and quality over a carnival atmosphere, this is the place for you. The cuisine is refined, clean, and high-quality, and the service is attentive yet pleasantly unobtrusive. You can tell there's a genuine concept behind it – nothing arbitrary, nothing loud, just very tasteful. Perhaps that's precisely why it's not (yet) overcrowded. But that's exactly where its great potential lies. For anyone in Thailand who appreciates aesthetics, tranquility, and good food, this restaurant is highly recommended. We'll definitely be back.

Absolutely fantastic, found this restaurant by accident while browsing Google Maps and what a treat it was. The food is inventive and incredibly cheap for the quality you get. I’ll definitely be back when in Khao Lak.

We came here two times during our visit to the area. Unlike the other restaurants in the area they aren’t really catering to tourists (like standing outside and garnering for customers). The restaurant is low key from the outside. These are not bad things as the food is quite good, and the restaurant atmosphere is very intimate. Please note that they are cash only, and the waitstaff is not that fluent in English. However, they are patient and if you use a translator app they are very helpful and polite. While they can cater to large groups since they are a smaller restaurant please be patient with the waitstaff. If that’s not something you’re willing to do - just go elsewhere if you have a group of 6+ The food itself kept us coming back. It was authentic, fresh, and in my opinion not watered down for tourists. We tried various curries and fried rices on both visits, and each dish was flavorful and had good spice. The crispy tofu was especially good as an appetizer. Definitely a must visit place if you’re in Khao Lak!

What a beautiful place; super contemporary design-ish with lots of concrete and dark brown wooden accents & furniture! We walked by this place during the day and it caught my eye.. this evening we went for dinner and the experience was a bit so so… did it have anything to do with the two tables in the restaurant about to pay for the bill.. not sure… the place was empty.. service was so so; don’t get me wrong please; everyone was very nice and polite but a place looking like this, raises some expectations! No one really spoke a decent word of English. We were immediately told that we couldn’t pay by card; cash only?! We ordered our food (mains only) from a menu that looked nothing like the restaurant?! Then when the food came, everything was served one by one.. starting with the rice & veggies of my partner.. to my noodles last. The food in itself was delicious.. but just missed something.. it could’ve just easily been served in a place just nextdoor to it. Learned that during daytime the restaurant is a cafe and they serve all kinds of special coffees - perhaps nice, but I’m not sure if I want to try.. all and all, what a beautiful looking restaurant & bar but what a miss!

My wife and I had a lovely meal here. Wasn't sure what to expect when viewed from the outside, however when we walked it we could see and feel it was more opulent then it's surrounding competition. With a laid back vibe to it, it was certainly a very pleasant dining experience. The food was very nice, the chef also came to explain that a dish my wife picked, needed to have some spice as she said she didn't want it too spicy. It also looked like the price of the food would be higher than surrounding restaurants but we were surprised to find it was in line with others, but with a better quality. Highly recommend it here to anyone.

Waankarn is an absolute treasure. Tucked away here in Khuekkhak, the restaurant itself is a work of art—a stunning example of modern Thai design that creates an incredibly serene and magical dining atmosphere. The food is equally impressive, offering a bold and authentic taste of the South. This is a rare place where the setting is as memorable as the meal. A must-visit for anyone seeking a true taste of Southern Thailand in a beautiful environment.
